The first-date safety checklist
A few simple systems can make the date easier while keeping you in control of your plans.
Before agreeing to meet
Have a short live video call and keep your home and workplace private.
- Tell a friend the profile name, place, and expected finish time.
- Use your own transport in both directions.
- Do not depend on the date for accommodation, money, or travel.
Choose a flexible plan
Meet in a staffed public place during a busy period. Keep the first meeting short enough to leave easily.
Keep your phone charged, retain your own payment method, and limit anything that could affect judgment.
Use a check-in
Agree on a time when a trusted person expects a message. Share location with them, not automatically with the date.
If boundaries are ignored or the plan is pressured into a private place, leave. Courtesy is never more important than safety.
